Be careful little eyes what you see...
I don't want to go into
too much detail about this but it is very serious, and people should know why
they must avoid it;
This isn't a new issue. It has been going on for quite a while and people are only just starting to
gain the knowledge of it. The issue I am arising is the creation of Pro-Ana
sites. These webpages are created to give people tips,
rules and advice on how to get really skinny and very underweight; hence why
they are called pro-anorexia sites.
They are dangerous,
unhealthy and not to be trusted. They do not give good advice on how
to get skinny, the only advice you get is how to become anorexic which is a
common and life threatening disease.
Don’t feel pressured to
visit these sites by friends or peers, for they are not worth it. It’s all part
of the body image issue and we need to realise that looking at these things can
be fatal. Sadly, people as young as 12 and upwards are viewing these sites, and
there have been many experiences that young people wished they’d never had.
This online article
tells us about a girl who, at the age of 17, began to look at Pro-Ana sites and
how she became very underweight and hospitalised. For the full article click

There are lots of stories similar to this of young people researching Pro-Ana sites, and some cases have even been fatal.
In 2009, Fearne Cotton presented a program called 'The Truth about online Anorexia.' Throughout her research into Pro-Ana sites, Fearne feels the full on effects as she puts herself in the readers shoes. She sticks to the tips and rules that people had put up on the sites, and she began to feel tired, exhausted and moody. She also came across some horrific pictures of very underweight, bony women and even found a picture of herself on one of the sites. Fearne was horrified and couldn't believe that people would use pictures such as those as inspiration, or thinspiration as it is known as. Further into the program, she visits a primary school to ask a couple questions to a group of young girls. What she heard was shocking, especially coming from primary school children. One of the girls told her, "I don't like my body...because I've got a big bum, big thighs and a big belly...I think I weigh too much." Here's the link to watch it below:

So,
what we learn from this is that whatever temptation you have for looking into
these sites and thinking that they will help you is completely wrong. DO NOT
take the risk because it’s not worth it!
Please
be careful and if you know anyone who is looking at these sites, please advise
them that it isn’t safe and what they're reading is not acceptable.
For
any parents out there who may not know about these sites, please consider that
your child may also be aware of them. A lot of young people sit on their
computers or on their phones looking at Pro-Ana sites in secret, which is why
people around them only start noticing something is wrong when the effects kick
in – such as sudden weight loss and excessive exercise. Please be careful and
take care of yourself!
