Summer Blues

It's that time of year again where we're all getting ready for the summer holidays. Glorious sunshine, sunny beaches, ice cold beverages and your favourite ice creams! And all that time leading up to those excitable moments are the same questions that keep reoccurring in our minds, as if they are hardwired to be there as soon as we hear the word "summer";

  • What new clothes should I get?
  •  I wonder what my friends will be wearing this year?
  • What can I do to look good on my photos for social media?
  • Maybe I should buy that bikini I've always wanted to try out... but will I look too fat in it?
  • What can I do to lose 5 pounds before I go on vacation?

Sound familiar? You're either in one of two boats. One, you think of all these listed worries daily, and you want to make a change but don't have the motivation or self belief to do it. Or Two, you want to ignore all those anxieties and pressures to look 'fabulous', and just get on with your happy holiday vibes!

If you're stuck in boat number One, there ARE ways of crossing the waters to the alternate side. In other words, training your mind to become more positive and self-loving is a great way to getting rid of those stereotypical "summer blues" that have always brought you down. Whether it's a lack of confidence in your body image, your physical abilities or your mental capacities, here is one positive approach that is free and simple to use;

"Today is going to be a great day, you CAN do this {your name}!"

Saying this simple phrase to yourself every morning or at random intervals throughout the day may help you to feel a little more uplifted, and maybe at some point will bring you into a daily positive mindset. You can come up with various quotes to motivate yourself depending on how you need motivating.

For example; You're out shopping for summer clothes and you're having a battle with your body image. All you end up seeing is the negatives and suddenly "summer" isn't becoming as exciting as you'd first imagined... Hold on a moment, let's take a step back, take a deep and slow breath, and then force a smile.

Now, start to pick out the positives!
• "Isn't that the coolest t-shirt you've ever seen? It's so ME!"
• "That bikini is so gorgeous, it'll just add to my natural awesomeness!"
• "Do my legs look good in this? They sure will do when we're strolling down that beach!"
• "I don't need to change my body, I'm only going to lie down on some sand for a few days!"

You get the picture? Always try to turn that negative moment into your own ray of positivity. Don't let those anxious and self-doubting thoughts take away your sunshine because they are only dark rain clouds passing by, they are never permanent. And this 'summer', the sun is here to stay!

You can even pass on these compliments to your friends and family, or anyone you notice around you that needs a little more vitamin-D in their lives!

Have a wonderful and relaxing time this summer, and don't forget to be your own positive sunbeam who is always ready to brighten the day!
