Take time to stop and smell the roses...

Sometimes we can get so caught up in our own problems that we lose the ability to focus.
We're really good at allowing negative thoughts, worries and problems to over crowd our minds. It's almost as if there is no space left for the positive uplifting and beautiful things in our world. When was the last time you sat in the park and listened to the wind in the trees?

'Appreciate the little things in life because one day you will look back and realize they were the big things.'

There are many little things that go unnoticed everyday;
  • a smile
  • bird song
  • sun rays
  • laughter
  • soft grass beneath your feet
  • snowflakes
  • a hug or hand shake
  • a wave
  • a kind word or thank you
  • a helping hand
  • raindrops
  • starlight
Rodgers and Hammerstein summed it all up for us in the brilliant Sound of Music, when Maria sang of her favourite things to the children who were terrified of the thunderstorm. Today we may think this is cheesy but there is a simple truth portrayed. In times of stress and worry; if we are determined, we can change our own feelings. We can go from being stressed and anxious to being positive and hopeful. Every cloud has a silver lining.

YoungMinds guest blogger has some great ideas for de-stressing in this article.

So if we would just stop to notice those raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens, or door bells and sleigh bells and schnitzel with noodles; maybe our favourite things can help us face the day with a happier face, and a brighter hope for tomorrow

Why not sit down and make a list of your favourite things and take time to stop and smell the roses?
